Arson investigators find dead body in car while searching garage shed fire rubble
Investigators found a body in a car on Monday while investigating the remains of a fire in a garage shed in Berkel en Rodenwijs. The police already said they suspected arson in Sunday’s fire and have made two arrests.
“This morning an investigation was carried out into the garage shed that was engulfed in flames during the fire yesterday. A car containing a deceased person was found in the shed,” police said on Monday.
The fire in a garage shed on Noordeindseweg was first reported to the authorities at 3:35 p.m. on Sunday. The fire quickly grew and the fire brigade responded in large numbers and with a lot of equipment. They managed to keep the fire from spreading further and eventually extinguished it.
The police arrested two people soon after the fire was reported. The suspects, a 28-year-old man without a permanent place of residence and a 21-year-old from Rotterdam, are in custody. “Their role in the fire is under investigation.”
Investigators are looking for witnesses or surveillance camera footage from the area that may be relevant.
