House fire in Assendelft injures five family members; Two seriously hurt

Five people were injured in a fire in a home on Zomerzon in Assendelft on Monday morning. Two of the victims sustained serious injuries, local security region Veiligheidstregio Zaanstreek-Waterland said.

The victims are a father, mother and three children. Firefighters pulled them from their burning home. Which two of them were seriously injured, is unclear. All five were taken to hospital for treatment.

The fire was first reported to the fire department at around 6:45 a.m. on Monday. Emergency services responded en masse. Two trauma teams were also deployed by helicopter.

Firefighters quickly got the fire under control, with the security region reporting that it was extinguished by 7:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
