Arrest made in fatal Rotterdam shooting

Police arrested a 33-year-old Rotterdam man in connection with a fatal shooting on Wednesday night. Police did not say if the suspect is believed to have pulled the trigger in an attack on a car on the Pusebocht in Rotterdam-Zuid between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

The victim was in a light-colored Opel Astra, witnesses said, when a gunman approached wearing dark clothing. He fired between six and eight shots and ran from the scene, according to newspaper AD.

Emergency services personnel attempted to revive the victim when they responded to the report of shots fired, but their efforts were unsuccessful. He died at the scene, police said in a statement.

The victim was also from Rotterdam. He was 30 years of age.

Authorities did not reveal when the suspect was arrested, nor how he became a focus of the investigation. His arrest was announced Thursday afternoon.

Police said they were still looking for witnesses and any available evidence anyone might have, including photos or videos. A forensic team collected trace evidence from the crime scene shortly after the crime took place.
