Police search Hague lake in investigation into Rotterdam teen's death

The police searched the lake in The Hague neighborhood of Ypenburg on Wednesday night in the investigation into the death of 17-year-old Orlando Boldewijn from Rotterdam. The teen disappeared after a Grindr date in February last year and was found dead in the lake a week later.

The investigation started at around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, NU.nl reports. Detectives and forensic investigators were at the scene. A police spokesperson could not tell the newspaper what prompted this search or whether anything was found.

Orlando never returned home after going on a date in The Hague, which he made through dating app Grindr. His body was found in the water in the Ypenburg district over a week later. After receiving various tips, the police arrested 27-year-old Roy B. from The Hague in connection with Orlando's death. B. was the man Orlando had a date with. According to the Public Prosecutor, investigation showed that B saw Orlando lying in the water during the early hours of February 19th, but did nothing to help him or alert anyone that he needed help. He will be prosecuted for negligence at a later date.

An autopsy on the teen boy's body did not reveal the cause of his death. The police are still investigating how the boy died and whether B., who is no longer in custody but still a suspect, was involved.
