Four seriously hurt in traffic accident in Eindhoven

A serious accident in Eindhoven on Thursday evening left nine people injured, four of whom seriously. Three cars were involved in the collision on the crossing of Anthony van Leeuwenhoeklaan and Marconilaan. All victims were taken to hospital, RTL Nieuws reports

The accident happened at around 6:00 p.m. An eyewitness saw that one car ended up on the wrong side of a road and crashed into a small white truck, according to the broadcaster. The road was littered with rubble and a lamppost was pulled from the ground.

The police closed down the area for several hours, for investigation and cleanup.

This is the fourth serious accident in the Netherlands so far this week, though the first one not to happen on a highway. On Easter Monday, four friends from Apeldoorn were killed after their car hit a matrix sign on the A1 highway. That same day a 19-year-old woman from Deventer crashed into a matrix sign, and passed away. On Wednesday morning, four young men died after their car hit a matrix sign on the A12 in The Hague.

Rijkswaterstaat, the Netherlands' public works department, announced an investigation into whether the matrix sign boards played a role in causing the accidents.
