Man caught illegally entering NL with €33,000 in his underpants

The Koninklijke Marechaussee arrested two men from France on the A16 highway in Hazeldonk for money laundering on Tuesday. One of them had 33 thousand euros in cash hidden in his underpants, the Marechaussee, a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military and is responsible for border security, said on Facebook.

While checking a French vehicle during a traffic check, the Marechaussee noticed that the passenger was signaled as an unwelcome foreigner in the Netherlands. The 40-year-old French man was searched and the officer found over 33 thousand euros in cash pushed into his underpants. The man was arrested. As was the 39-year-old driver of the car, who is also from France. They are both suspected of money laundering. A baseball bat that was found in the car was confiscated.

The Marechaussee also arrested a 27-year-old man from Montenegro while checking an international bus on Tuesday. This man was also listed as not allowed in the Netherlands.

The suspects are in custody for further investigation.
