Motorist in Pinkpop crash to be prosecuted

A Heerlen man who crashed into a group of festival attendees after Pinkpop will be prosecuted for causing the accident, which left one man dead and three others seriously hurt, as well as for leaving the scene of the accident, the Public Prosecutor in Maastricht confirmed to newspaper AD.

Danny S. hit four festival-goers with his delivery van at the entrance to campsite B in Landgraaf after the Pinkpop festival on June 18th. A 35-year-old man was killed. Three others were seriously injured. They are still recovering. The victims were sitting in the road, and the driver saw them too late to avoid hitting them.

According to the Prosecutor, investigation already showed that S. did not hit the four festival-goers deliberately. But he still caused the accident through "careless and inattentive driving behavior", the Prosecutor said.

S. initially left the scene of the accident, but later turned himself in to the police. So far nothing was revealed about the speed he was driving. According to the Prosecutor, he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
