One killed after robbery at Hoogeveen restaurant

One person was killed in robbery at a Chinese-Indian restaurant in Drenthe and a subsequent car crash on Thursday. The car crashed into a low wall on Kaaplaantje at around 10:00 p.m., shortly after the robbery. One of the people in the car was killed, the other seriously injured, RTV Drenthe reports.

The car crashed into a low wall of parking garage De Kaap. The parking garage is located right behind the robbed restaurant.

An employee of the restaurant told the broadcaster that the person that was killed, is the owner of the restaurant. The police would not confirm this, but did say on Twitter that "one of the victims died".

According to eyewitnesses, a large amount of money was found on the backseat of the car.

The police closed down the area for investigation. At this stage the investigators have not officially said that the car crash and restaurant robbery are linked. "For us the cause of the accident is currently still unclear", a police spokesperson said to the broadcaster.
