Police chase ends in car crash; seriously hurt man resuscitated

A 19-year-old man from IJsselstein was seriously injured when he crashed his car during a police chase in Houten early on Sunday morning. He was taken to hospital after being resuscitated at the scene, RTL Nieuws reports.

The police tried to pull the man over for a traffic check on Rondweg in Houten around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday. The man drove his car into a lamppost, then backwards into a police car, and then sped away.

On De Rede, the man hit the sidewalk. His car flipped and crashed into the water.

Police officers found the man in the water dozens of meters away. He was taken out of the water, resuscitated and rushed to hospital.

A police helicopter was deployed to search the water, in case there was someone else in the car too, but no one was found.
