Man, 22, arrested in The Hague for possible terrorist threat

A 22-year-old man from Zoetermeer was arrested in The Hague on Wednesday afternoon for threats. Witnesses reported to the police that he was standing at a car with a hissing gas bottle, shouting 'Allahu Akbar'. His motive is not clear. "All possible scenarios are being investigated", the police said, Omroep West reports.

The man was arrested on Telexstraat next to the HTM building at around 2:00 p.m. by members of a special police unit. A helicopter was deployed to the scene, and police officers were stationed on a nearby roof with guns pointed at the man.

The suspect was talked out of his car and arrested. The police found a gas bottle in the car after the arrest. Explosive experts examined the car, and concluded that it was safe.

The man is in custody for further investigation.
