1998 murder suspect extradited to Netherlands today, lawyer says

Jos B., the man suspected of involvement in the murder of 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen in 1998, will be extradited to the Netherlands on Thursday afternoon, his Spanish lawyer said. The lawyer did not say what time exactly, or to which airport in the Netherlands B. would be brought to, RTL Nieuws reports.

So far the Dutch Public Prosecutor made no statements about when B. will be extradited.

The 55-year-old man from Simpelveld is suspected of involvement in the sexual assault and murder of 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen in Brunssummerheide in 1998. He was linked to the crime through DNA traces found on the boy's clothes. A large DNA kinship investigation was done to find the perpetrator of this crime. B. did not participate in this investigation, but members of his family did.

B. was arrested in a remote area around 50 kilometers from Barcelona on August 26th. He's been in a Spanish cell since hen. B. said he was willing to cooperate in an accelerated extradition procedure.
