Dutch tourist beaten to death on Mallorca

A 34-year-old Dutch tourist died after being beaten up by a group of five young people near Palma on the Spanish island of Mallorca. The Spanish police are investigating this as a murder and are looking for the perpetrators, ANP reports.

The Dutch tourist was attacked and beaten unconscious near a petrol station to the north of the city's airport at around 5:00 a.m. on Friday. Emergency workers rushed the victim to the Academic Hospital Son Espases, where the he died of his injuries.

According to local media, the Spanish police have security camera footage of the perpetrators. Investigators are searching for trace evidence at the scene and are also looking at the neighborhood of Son Banya, a kilometer away from where the Dutch man was attacked. This neighborhood is known for drug trafficking, according to ANP.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to the news wire that a Dutch man was killed on Mallorca. The Dutch embassy in Madrid is in contact with the victim's family.
