Suspect killed by police bullet in Amsterdam Centrum

The Amsterdam police shot and killed a man who was suspected of stabbing another man just after midnight on Friday, the police said in a statement.

Both the stabbing and the shooting happened in a home on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam Centrum. Both men were resuscitated. The stabbing victim was rushed to hospital. The man shot by the police was declared dead at the scene.

The Rijksrecherche, the department that handles internal investigations at the police, is investigating the shooting. This is standard procedure for all incidents in which a police officer fires his or her gun.
