Police shoot motorist during arrest at Drenthe sex club
A police officer shot a motorist suspected of driving under the influence while arresting him in Ees, Drenthe late on Sunday night. The man was taken to hospital for treatment and his condition is not life-threatening, RTL Nieuws reports.
According to the broadcaster, the man was arrested at a sex club.
The police suspected that the man was under the influence of alcohol. When they addressed him on his behavior, the situation escalated, the Drenthe police said on Twitter. The officer first tried to subdue him using pepper spray. When that did not work, the officer shot him.
The Rijksrecherche - the department that handles internal investigations at the police - will investigate the shooting, as is standard procedure in all incidents involving a police officer firing his or her service weapon.
