Smoldering joint damages dozens of cars, storage spaces

A 32-year-old man managed to damage around 40 cars and 20 storage spaces with a single smoldering joint in Roosendaal on Sunday, Weekblad De Bode reports.

The man put the smoldering joint in a cardbox box and left it in a storage space in an apartment buiding on Burgemeester Freijterslaan. The cardboard box caught fire and caused a massive amount of smoke, filling the entire basement.

Some 40 cars and 20 storage spaces sustained soot and smoke damage.

The man was arrested on suspicion of arson or fire by negligence. During questioning it was revealed that he works for the Minsitry of Defense. He was therefore handed over to the Koninklijke Marechaussee - a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military.
