Firebombing at Assen home concerns neighbors
Residents of Koestraat in Assen were woken by firefighters on Sunday night after a firebomb was thrown through a neighbor's window and started a fire. No one was injured as the resident of the home was away on holiday, Dagblad van het Noorden reports.
A passerby noticed a hole in the window and smoke filling the room and called the emergency services, who responded en force. Firefighters got the situation quickly under control and stopped the fire from spreading. Though the room itself sustained a lot of damage.
Police and firefighters were busy in the street until 3:00 a.m. on Monday morning, while concerned neighbors stood around watching the events. "Must be something relational", one neighbor told the newspaper, adding that the resident and a partner were living together last year, but no longer.
Still the incident worries them. "I've been angry at someone before, but throwing a firebomb into a home is a very drastic measure, is it not?" another neighbor said to the newspaper.
A forensic team is doing an arson investigation.
