Video: Five children find dead man in woods during soccer camp in Rijen

Five children aged 7 to 9 were playing hide-and-seek in a forest in Rijen on Saturday at around 9:30 p.m. when they found the body of a dead man. The children are part of a group of 90 kids who were on the grounds of the VV Rijen soccer club for a summer camp this weekend.

The children alerted a camp counselor, after which the emergency services were called. "One of the children started crying," a spokesperson for the soccer camp told Omroep Brabant. The parents were also notified.

Police and firefighters quickly arrived. Firefighters were needed because the man's body was located in a remote area of the forest.

Emergency responders determined that the man had been dead for some time. Police have ruled out foul play. "Fortunately, most of the other children were unaware of the incident," the camp's spokesperson said.

A medical coordinator from the ambulance service spoke at length with the children, which the spokesperson said "brought a great sense of calm."
