Volendam supermarket burns to the ground

A Dirk van den Broek store in Volendam burnt to the ground in a massive fire on Thursday morning. The supermarket can be considered lost, according to the local safety office, NU.nl reports. The fire started around 2:55 a.m. in the store on Hyacintenstraat. The fire department saw no chance in extinguishing it quickly and let it burn in a controlled manner. The fire spread to a nearby Chinese-Indonesian restaurant. A lot of smoke is being released by the fire. An NL-Alert was sent out advising local residents to keep windows and doors closed and turn off mechanical ventilation. So far there were no reports of asbestos being released.
