Suspect arrested in Rotterdam stabbing

A 60-year-old homeless man was stabbed on Carnissesingel in Rotterdam on Wednesday. A 35-year-old man from Rotterdam was arrested as suspect a short time later, the police said in a statement on Thursday. The homeless man was stabbed several times, but his injuries were minor. He was able to call the police himself and gave a thorough description of his attacker. The attacker's description, based on statements from the victim and a witness, was spread along to all police officers in the city. Patrolling officers saw a man matching the description walking down Mellisantstraat a short time later and arrested him. The stabbing weapon was found a few hundred meters away. According to the police, the suspect gave a disturbed impression. He was questioned, but could not give a clear reason for why he attacked the homeless man. The victim could also not explain it, he doesn't know his attacker and did nothing that should give rise to violence. The suspect is in custody for further investigation.
