Fire at Tilburg recycling center triggers smoke warning

A large fire broke out at recycling center Huiskes Metaal on Centaurusweg in Tilburg on Monday morning. An NL-Alert was sent warning local residents to stay out of the smoke, keep windows and doors closed and turn off the ventilation, Omroep Brabant reports. The fire broke out on a plastic waste pile on the terrain around 8:30 a.m. on Monday. Thick black smoke clouds are being released and drifting over Tilburg, Udenhout and Berkel Enschot, according to the broadcaster. Several firefighting teams from the region are at the scene trying to keep the fire from spreading. The adjacent building, belonging to paper trader Heijnen, was evacuated. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
