Suspect arrested in Amsterdam serial-rape case
The police arrested a 34-year-old man in Purmerend on Thursday night. He is suspected of raping three young women in Amsterdam late in January.
The suspect was traced based on one of more than 50 tips the police received after releasing more information on the case last week. The tip led to the identity of a man who sold one of the victims' cellphone, stolen from her during the rape.
A DNA sample taken from the suspect matches trace evidence found in all three of the rapes.
The rapes happened on January 28th, 30th and 31st. On January 28th a man pulled a young woman from her bicycle on H.J.E Wenckebachweg and raped her. Two days later another young woman was raped in her apartment building's elevator. And a day after that the suspect raped his third victim at Sloterplas.
