Dutch commando shot, killed during drill

A 35-year-old sergeant was killed in a shooting incident during a Commando Corps drill at a training location in Ossendrecht on Tuesday morning, the Koninklijke Marechaussee announced.  The Koninklijke Marechaussee, a policing force that works as a branch of the military, is investigating the incident under guidance of the Public Prosecutor. Exactly what happened was not announced. According to the Marechaussee, this type of incident seldom happens. The training ground in Ossendrecht is set up with several locations for both theory lessons as practical training, according to broadcaster NOS. Locations include an obstacle course, a shooting range and a town with abandoned buildings, buses and trains used to practice for emergency. Both the military and the police make use of this training grounds. Last week the Commando Corps were presented the order of Willem by King Willem-Alexander for their efforts in Afghanistan.
