Video: Tornado whips through farms destroying barns
A tornado caused a large amount of damage in Wieringerwerf, Noord-Holland on Monday night. Three farms fell victim to the tornado, with barns and sheds taking the brunt of the damage. Trees were torn from the ground and roof tiles and branches rained from the air. No one was injured.
Farmers gathered afterwards to see how they can help each other, the Telegraaf reports. The fire department was also on site to provide assistance. A spokesperson for the regional safety office confirmed to the newspaper that everyone managed to get to safety on time and that there were no injuries.
"I have never experienced anything like this in my career", Dennis van der Vlucht of the Wieringerwerf fire department said to RTV Noord Holland.
The bad weather that hit the Netherlands on Monday also caused flooding in many places, including in Amsterdam where streets and tunnels were flooded, the AD reports. Many parts of the country experienced cloudbursts.
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, known as the KNMI, issued a code yellow warning for dangerous weather on Monday. The fierce thunderstorms left the country from the north during the course of the night.
