The fire started around 8:30 a.m. on Monday in one of the patients' rooms. All 16 rooms of the building had to be evacuated because of the smoke. The 27 year old occupant of the room in question has been arrested, along with his 30 year old girlfriend, on suspicion of vandalism and arson.
According to the police, the two smashed a window with a chair, set the fire, and then fled through the broken window. They were arrested a short time later in the area.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire very quickly. Two of the institution's employees were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
