A large fire broke out at VDL Bus & Coach on De Vest in Valkenswaard during the early hours of Monday morning.
According to Omroep Brabant, the fire started around 00:20 on Monday morning in a warehouse on the VDL grounds. The fire brigade responded en masse, with three tankers, two platforms and an additional water supply.
The fire brigade managed to get the fire under control by 03:30 a.m., but then still had hours to work on the extinguishing. The warehouse burnt down completely. The fire also damaged the building next to the warehouse, but firefighters managed to keep it from spreading any further.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. It is also unclear whether any people were in the building before the fire started. "As far as we know, no one was injured", a spokesperson for the regions safety office told Omroep Brabant. A number of explosions were heard in the vicinity of the warehouse, where spare parts for buses were stored. The spokesperson for the safety office explains that the blasts ere likely caused by burning aluminum. "That pops when you pour water over it."
