Amsterdam fake cocaine suspect back in custody
A court in Amsterdam remanded into custody the 42-year-old man suspected of selling white heroin to tourists wanting to buy cocaine. The alleged dealer was released on April 20 awaiting trial for drug trafficking and the attempted murder of three Danish people.
The court ruled that there is enough reason to suspect white heroin was deliberately distributed on the street to cause people harm, broadcaster AT5 wrote.
At least three people were killed and 17 people injured in white heroin cases since September. The Danes were sickened by the fake cocaine in February. The suspect in custody is not yet facing charges in the other incidents.
Prosecutors appealed the ruling that led to the suspect’s release, in which the court determined it was unnecessary to keep him in jail before the trial. He volunteered himself to authorities after seeing security camera images of the alleged dealer that police circulated during the investigation.
In siding with prosecutors, the appellate ruling sends him back to jail at least until an initial hearing. The hearing could take place within the next three months, AT5 reported.
