Police seal off Leidseplein area; SWAT respond to Amsterdam armed robbery
The Wagamama restaurant on the Max Eeuweplein in Amsterdam was robbed shortly before 08:00 this morning. The police quickly arrested one man, but more suspects may still be in the building.
The police are currently raiding the building, Het Parool reports. The SWAT team entered the premises just after 09:00 a.m. The square and a wide area around it, including the Leidseplein, has been closed off. A helicopter is circling the area. The police are being extremely cautions as weapons were used in the robbery.
There were several employees in the building at the time of the robbery. The restaurant was not open yet and the employees were preparing for the day.
