Stef Blok takes over as interim Justice Minister

Minister Stef Blok (Housing and National Service) will be taking over the duties of the Ministry of Security and Justice until a new Justice Minister has been selected, the Koninklijk Huis announced.

This follows the surprise resignations of Ivo Opstelten ans Minister of Security and Justice and Fred Teeven as State Secretary of Security and Justice. The two officials resigned after more details came to light regarding a deal Teeven made during his time as prosecutor with drug criminal Cees H.

King Willem-Alexander accepted the resignations on the recommendation of Prime Minister Mark Rutte, stating gratitude for the many important services provided by Opstelten and Teeven to him and the Kingdom.
