The former Number 2 at the Justice Ministry, who is now employed as a Connexxion bus driver, Fred Teeven received an extraordinary passenger Tuesday morning. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte took a ride on Teeven's bus travelling between Hoofddorp and Schiphol.

A 2015 traffic accident involving once-prominent VVD politician Fred Teeven was caused by his own use of his phone while driving. Now a professional bus driver, the former Number 2 at the Justice Ministry stated his mea culpa in an interview with De Telegraaf.

The April 2 accident was serious enough to later require a brain operation.

Former State Secretary Security and Justice Fred Teeven is working part time as a bus driver for Connexxion, the public transit company confirmed to NU.nl.

"I do driver work part-time and have just finished my introductory course", Teeven said to the Telegraaf on Thursday. "I always wanted to be an international truck driver, but when the chance arose to sit on the bus for a day and a half a week in my own region, I immediately became enthusiastic."

While State Secretary of Security and Justice in the Rutte II cabinet, Fred Teeven (VVD) implemented budget cuts on legal aid after he realized that the PvdA would not make criminal stricter and implement minimum punishments, weekly newspaper De Groene Amsterdammer reports. "It's another way to achieve the same effect", the newspaper quotes him. Lawyers in the Netherlands are furious.

Nearly a quarter of the Ministry of Security and Justice's employees are so unhappy that they want to resign, according to an internal satisfaction survey at the Ministry. A main complaint is a heavy workload caused by political turmoil surrounding the Ministry, ANP reports.

The survey was dome among 1,300 officials working at the Ministry. A Ministry spokesperson confirmed the figures to NU.nl on Thursday and called them "worrisome".

VVD parliamentarian Fred Teeven is stepping aside as parliamentarian to undergo a brain surgery in January. The expectation is that he wil not return to the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, to speak before the elections in March next year, the Telegraaf reported on Wednesday.

December 22nd will be Teeven's last regular working day before the surgery in January. He may still occassionally return to the Kamer to vote before the elections, but not as a spokesperson, according to the newspaper.

A number of important Dutch people were named in the Amsterdam court on Monday, where witnesses are being questioned in a case surrounding an extensive network of child sexual abuse and child prostitution in Amsterdam in the 1980's. According to the first witness, former mayor Ed van Thijn, former Minister Onno Rudding and Prince Claus were all involved in pedophile-prostitution to some extent.

The Dutch cabinet will be limping into the final 1.5 years of this term. While almost the entire opposition supported a motion of censure against the cabinet during the parliamentary debate about the so-called Teeven-deal on Wednesday, they managed to survive the vote, thoroughly chastised but alive.

Drug criminal Cees H. warned former Justice State Secretary Fred Teeven that another criminal was planning to attack and kidnap him and keep him captive in a cage built in a junkyard for that purpose. Teeven, still a prosecutor at the time, was prosecuting the criminal in question - John V., alias The Hakkelaar - for large-scale drug trafficking.
