Fmr. State Secretary Teeven takes job as bus driver
Former State Secretary Security and Justice Fred Teeven is working part time as a bus driver for Connexxion, the public transit company confirmed to NU.nl.
"I do driver work part-time and have just finished my introductory course", Teeven said to the Telegraaf on Thursday. "I always wanted to be an international truck driver, but when the chance arose to sit on the bus for a day and a half a week in my own region, I immediately became enthusiastic."
Teeven will be in training for another few weeks, and then he can start transporting passengers in the Haarlem region, a Connexxion spokesperson said to NU.nl. The former State Secretary already had his large vehicle driver's license, so his training is going faster than usual. He is currently exploring the lines and getting to know the company.
Fred Teeven resigned as State Secretary of Security and Justice early last year due to controversy about a deal he made with a drug dealer while he was a prosecutor in 2000. In the months between his resignation and the parliamentary elections in March, Teeven was a parliamentarian for the VVD.
In addition to working as a bus driver, Teeven and a former colleague at the Tax investigative service FIOD are also opening a consultancy in the field of security and cybercrime, according to NU.nl.
