Ban on free plastic bags riles ruling party

The VVD is up in arms about the fact that State Secretary Wilma Mansveld (Infrastructure and Environment) plans to stick to her plan to ban free plastic bags, De Telegraaf reports. The VVD has been opposing Mansveld's environmentally friendly proposal for months. According to the liberal party, putting a plastic bag ban in law would be "patronizing", especially since citizens already use fewer plastic bags on their own initiative. On Thursday Mansveld (PvdA) announced that she will continue with her proposal. She believes that she will be supported by a parliamentary majority.
