Donations pour in for elderly lady robbed of Xmas dinner money

An elderly lady's bag was stolen on Adriaan van Bergenstraat in Breda at around 12:45 on Friday afternoon. The bag contained her last money intended for Christmas dinner with her sick husband. The woman (79) had just done some shopping on her scooter. Her handbag was in the basket on the front of the scooter. The elderly woman struggled to get the heavy bag of groceries into her house and stepped away from her scooter, leaving her handbag there. While she was in the house, her handbag was stolen from the scooter. In addition to her last money for Christmas dinner, the handbag also contained a photo of her deceased daughter. After hearing the story, a few readers of Omroep Brabant jumped into action to collect money for the lady and her husband "to show this lady that Christmas is a time where people can still do something beautiful together." the donation page states. Thus far 146 people have donated a total 2,557 euro. A number of people also commented on the donation page to wish the couple a very merry Christmas. Due to circumstances beyond the good Samaritans' control, they will only be able to hand over the donated money to the couple on 2nd Christmas Day. But a supermarket has offered to arrange enough groceries for Christmas dinner, which will be delivered to the couple on Christmas Eve.
