Gunshot rings out after driver rams cop car
In Simonshaven, a man was arrested at around 10 p.m. after reportedly attempting to drive his car into a police officer. The officer was forced to shoot the suspect's car in order to get the situation under control.
Police officers were in Spijkenisse when they spotted a driver who looked like he may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.
After calling for back-up, the police became involved in a high-speed chase. On the Schuddebeursdijk in Simonshaven, the suspect rammed into a police car before stopping. The suspect's vehicle was eventually surrounded by police cars.
When the police approached the suspect in order to arrest him, he in turn drove straight at one of the officers. A shot was released at the car, which allowed police to arrest the suspect.
Nobody was injured, and the driver has been transfered to a police department. The Technical Mishaps Service and the Forensic Detection units of the police are investigating.
