Ten-car fire damages Rotterdam hotel
The Safety Region Rotterdam-Rijnmond announced on Saturday that the Best Western ART Hotel in Mijnsheren Avenue in Rotterdam had been evacuated due to a fire in the underground parking structure.
Due to the smoke, trains were temporarily not allowed to stop at Rijnhaven and Zuidplein stations, RTV Rijnmond reports.
The fire occurred on Saturday at about 15:00 pm in the parking garage of the hotel. The fire department arrived en mass, but could not enter the garage at first due to the intense smoke. The entire hotel as well as surrounding buildings had to be evacuated.
Around 17:00 pm the fire was under control and the signal "fire mastered" was given by the fire department at 18:30 pm.
No one was wounded, but one man was treated in the ambulance for smoke inhalation.
The fire started in a car parked in the garage and spread to about ten other cars.
