Overnight flooding plagues the south

The heavy weather on Sunday caused several reports of water damage in parts of Brabant. In some areas, 22 mm of rain fell, leaving roads flooded and cellars under water. This morning, Weeronline.nl reports that other areas of the country have experienced 40 mm of rainfall. The surroundings of Tilburg and Dongen in Brabant were the most heavily affected by the storms. In Sint-Oedenrode, the fire department was busy pumping water out of apartments where the roof caved in. One room in a flat was so heavily affected that the residents had to find shelter elsewhere. In Oisterwijk, several cars were damaged by falling branches. It is possible that lighting struck the tree, and a branch landed on the cars below. According to Omroep Brabant, one home in Dongen was struck by lightning, which hit the meter box. Dagblad de Limburger reports that there was also flooding in large parts of the region of Limburg. In Venray, a tree fell over. Nobody was injured. The severe weather conditions will continue today, notably for the South. The Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a dangerous weather warning for most of the country this afternoon, and says that there is also chance of hail.
