18 Years for Jasper S.

The court in the northern city of Leeuwarden sentenced Jasper S. to 18 years in prison for raping and murdering Marianne Vaatstra in 1999. According to the judge, S. was completely sane. Jasper S. confessed to the crime but always said that he acted without premeditation. However, the court decided that he had time to change his mind after he raped the girl. The 16-year-old Marianne never came home after a night out on Queen's Day 14 years ago. She was found dead in a meadow in Veenklooster, a village in the north of the country. Her death remained a mystery for years until S. was caught after a nationwide DNA investigation. RTL.nl reported that the public prosecutor's office demanded 20 years in prison and that the lawyers of S. asked for not more than 15. The lawyer of Jasper S. prefers not to appeal the decision.
