The Vrije Universitieit in Amsterdam will soon be offering free Dutch language and culture courses to imams, Trouw reports. 

Most of these Muslim clerics were trained in turkey, Morocco or Egypt and often only speak the language that they were trained in, according to the newspaper. They often also lack knowledge about life in the Netherlands. The Vrije Universiteit wants to offer them the opportunity to change this.

The Dutch police are not good at distinguishing between real and fake sex crime reports, according to a study by the University of Maastricht and the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Researcher Andre De Zutter called the police assessment of a sex crime report "guesswork", the Volkskrant reports.

Archaeologists at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam discovered the place where Roman general and statesman Julius Caesar destroyed two Germanic tribes in 55 BC. The location is at Kessel, in the municipality Oss in Noord-Brabant, the university announced on Wednesday.

The University of Amsterdam has once again managed to snag the top Dutch university position in the QS World University Rankings, beating Delft University of Technology and Utrecht University. TU Delft moved up 22 places from last year's 86th position, to number 64 this year.

Sebastian Bowier broke the world record for biking, on a special recumbent bike, with a staggering 133.78 kilometers per hour.

The special, high-tech recumbent bike was a mutual project of the TU in Delft and the VU in Amsterdam. After a straight long track of 8km, the world record time was measured along a 200m track.
