David Calhoun, the chief executive of plane manufacturer Boeing, will not come to the Netherlands to discuss the crash of a Turkish Airlines 737 near Schiphol in 2009 with the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, according to a letter from Boeing that ANP has in its possession.

While investigating the Turkish Airlines plane crash near Schiphol in 2009, the Dutch Safety Board was pressured by Americans to downplay the role design errors in the Boeing 737 NG played in the crash, the New York Times reports based on its own research. According to the newspaper, there are many parallels between the 2009 crash and the recent crashes with Boeing 737 MAX planes, the successor of the Boeing 737 NG.

Ten years ago today a Turkish Airlines plane crashed in a swampy meadow on the edge of Zwanenburg, a village between Haarlem and Amsterdam. Nine people were killed - four passengers in business class, two cabin crew members and three pilots. Miraculously, 126 passengers survived, though many of them badly injured, AD reports.
