For the first time in years the number of tuberculosis cases in the Netherlands increased last year, according to the national institute for public health and environment RIVM. The increase can completely be attributed to asylum seekers coming from countries where TB is prevalent.
Dutch King Willem-Alexander addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New Yorkby highlighting seventy years of the Netherlands work with the UN on achievements that have helped shape and improve today's world. In a speech where he strongly advocated for the Netherlands to get a seat on the UN Security Council, he also called upon all the nations of the world to show solidarity in the face of the current refugee crisis, noting that the Netherlands has again increased its contribution to humanitarian assistance making it one of the world’s largest donors.
The GGD (public health service) discovered a non-contagious form of tuberculosis (TB) ina a former student of the Rotterdam Academy which corresponds with the TB bacterium found in another student of the same academy early in 2014, Hogeschool Rotterdam announced on their website.
A foreign student completing a Masters project at the Biomedical Technology faculty at TU Eindhoven for the last six months has found to be infected with tuberculosis, specifically a strain that may be infectious. Anyone who has had intensive contact with the student will be inspected by the GGD Brabant-Zuidoost, which includes 20 co-workers and students of BMT, the University announces.
