The Alfa college in Hoogeveen will be running school-shooting drills next week, the school informed pupils and parents in a letter. The school wants to train pupils how to react if they are ever faced with such violence. General education union AOb is baffled by the exercise, but the police applaud it, AD reports.
The municipality of Amsterdam, along with emergency services in the city and the Ministry of Defense, will be holding large anti-terrorism training drills in the city on November 8th and 9th. The aim of these exercises is to make sure all involved parties can work properly together should there be an attack in the Dutch capital, Het Parool reports.
The special forces training for the Corps Commando troops was halted to a large extend due to concerns for their safety, according to a mail from the highest leader of the commandos that RTL Nieuws has in its possession. Commander Groen wrote the mail to his immediate superior, Commander of the armed forces Leo Beulen. In it he wrote that he has no confidence that the security procedures of the trainings are in order, according to the broadcaster.
A landing vessel of the Corps Marines got standed on a sandbank during a training exercise just off the coast of Vlissingen on Wednesday evening. The vessel was stuck for several hours, before high tide freed it, Omroep Zeeland reports.
A spokesperson for the Marines told the broadcaster that the stranded vessel had no consequences for the training exercise, which was set to last well into the early hours of Thursday morning.
The Public Prosecutor will not prosecute three commando soldiers involved in the death of a colleague during training in Ossendrecht last year. The soldiers were wrongly suspected of death by negligence and the cases against them were dropped, the Prosecutor announced on Wednesday, ANP reports.
