Doctors at the Amphia Hospital in Breda are teaming up with Noord-Brabant football clubs PSV, Willem II, RKC, and NAC to monitor if and how the coronavirus spreads in team sports. The footballers' health will be monitored in the coming months, and if they show symptoms of the coronavirus, the researchers will track down where they got the virus and whether it spread to their teammates, doctor Peter Joosten, initiator of this study, said to Omroep Brabant.

Dutch football association KNVB does not have to promote two football clubs out of the Eerste Divisie and into the top level Eredivisie after the football season was cut short, a court in Utrecht ruled on Thursday. The case was brought by the top two teams in the Eerste Divisie, SC Cambuur from Leeuwarden and De Graafschap from Doetinchem, which said they were unfairly penalized and that the KNVB did not stick to its own rules.

Dutch football association KNVB made several controversial decisions to close out the 2019-20 season, prematurely cut short by the global health crisis. The association chose on Friday not to relegate two teams from the Eredivisie, nor to promote two teams from the Eerste Divisie. It also sparked anger from one club at the way in which it was cut out of European football competition for the upcoming season.

One person was killed, and separately a portion of the AFAS Stadion roof collapsed as heavy winds gripped the Netherlands on Saturday. Wind gusts in IJmuiden, at the North Sea coast, even topped 104 kilometers per hour.

A bicyclist died at about 2:30 p.m. in Linschoten, Utrecht, when the heavy winds toppled a tree, which sent it crashing down on a bike path along the Haardijk. The tree struck the victim, a 58-year-old man from Lopik, a town 15 kilometers away from the accident.

Frenkie de Jong is exchanging Amsterdam for Barcelona. The 21-year-old Ajax midfielder is transferring to Barca after the season, for a transfer fee of 75 million euros, which can increase to up to 86 million euros based on variables, Ajax announced.
