The court sentenced 21-year-old Azim A. to 10 years in prison and institutionalized psychiatric treatment for randomly shooting a student in the city of Groningen last year. He was convicted of attempted manslaughter. The student, Sidney Ruiter, survived the shooting, but is permanently paralyzed, RTL Nieuws reports.
A 21-year-old student was shot "out of nowhere" in Groningen over the weekend, the police revealed on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday. He was seriously injured and will be paralyzed for the rest of his life.
The victim was shot on Korreweg around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. He was cycling when he was surrounded by three men. One of them fired a shot. The victim was hit, but managed to run away. As he fled, more shots were fired at him. The police believe that the young man was coincidentally involved in the incident - that he was a random victim.
