Former Georgian Prime Minister Michail Saakashvili is moving to the Netherlands. He landed at Schiphol on Monday, after being deported from the Ukraine to Poland. He plans to settle here, his lawyer Oscar Hammerstein confirmed to NOS. According to the lawyer, Saakashvili's accommodation was "quietly arranged and approved" by the Netherlands' immigration and naturalization service IND.

In the first nine months of 2016 Dutch companies exported more to the Ukraine than in the same period last year, according to figures from the European Commission (EC). The total trade between the Netherlands increased by 4 percent to 1.17 billion euros. According to the Commission, this can be attributed to the , the trade part of which took effect on January 1st, ANP reports.

Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Bert Koenders is examining whether the cease-fire agreement for Ukraine does include amnesty for the perpetrators of the MH17 disaster. While the MH17 disaster is not specifically mentioned in the accord signed on Thursday, Dutch parliamentarians are urgently seeking clarification of the agreement's text and assurance that it will be able to persecute the perpetrators, reported nos.nl.

Pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine say that there is no truth in the claim that the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is not allowed into the area where the Malaysia Airlines plane crashed on the 17th of July. They insist rather that they have always worked "effectively" together with the organization.

This, so that the investigative team, including Dutch forensic experts, can have safe access to the site.

At least 189 Dutch nationals including a Senator were amongst the 298 people onboard Malaysia Airlines flight 17 when it was apparently shot down over Ukrainian airspace near the Russian border. The airline says that four of the passengers' nationalities have not yet been determined.

Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte released a statement Thursday evening expressing his dismay over the crash in Eastern Ukraine of a flight from Amsterdam to Malaysia. The country's top security official noted that those onboard the plane are of many nationalities.

Ukranine President Petro Poroshenko said the Ukranian military did not attempt to shoot down any aircraft after reports surfaced that Malaysia Airlines flight 17 crashed there on Thursday en route to Kuala Lumpur. The flight originated in Amsterdam. All 295 people onboard are believed to have been killed, with a Ukrainian government advisor saying the flight was brought down with a missile.
