The number of foreign tourists staying overnight in the Netherlands continues to grow. Last year, a total of 20.1 million tourists from abroad spent at least one night in our country, a growth of 7 percent compared to the year before, ANP and De Telegraaf report based on figures from the Netherlands' office of tourism and congresses NBTC.

The increase is in line with expectations, NBTC director Jos Vranken said to ANP. NBTC expects that the number of tourists will increase to 30 million in the next decade.

Tourism in the Netherlands is less and less dependent on the season, largely thanks to hotel accommodation, Statistics Netherlands reported on Friday. Seasonal fluctuation at Dutch hotels is disappearing, with the number of overnights being nearly the same all year round.

A group of Amsterdam residents marched through the Kinkerbuurt on Thursday night to protest against the gentrification of Amsterdam West and the problems caused by tourism, Het Parool reports.

They carried banners and megaphones, shouting slogans like "Amsterdam, not for sale!" and "Who's city, our city!". The procession stopped at various locations, including at Jan Pieter Heijestraat, where there are plans to build a long-stay hotel with apartments, instead of housing.
