Video: Stuntman lands badly after catapulting over Zwarte Cross festival; Hospitalized

A stuntman at the Zwarte Cross festival in the Achterhoek region was taken to the hospital on Thursday after his stunt did not go quite according to plan. The man was catapulted at a speed of 185 kilometers per hour and landed badly on the landing cushion. Stuntman Jim van Nes told Hart van Nederland on Friday morning that he stayed overnight in the hospital, but is doing fine.

The stunt was an attempt to break a world record. Van Nes was launched at a speed of 185 kilometers per hour and flew 75 meters over the festival tent to land on a special mat.

Shortly after the stunt, it was announced over the speakers that the stuntman was conscious but needed to be “medically checked.” He was carried off on a stretcher and driven away in an ambulance.

According to Van Nes, the stunt went largely according to plan. “The launching went well, and the flying through the air went well.” It’s only the landing that went wrong. “It was just that I went a little further than the last time I did it, and I wasn’t prepared for that.”

He couldn’t say exactly how he landed. “I woke up in the ambulance.”

According to Van Nest, the overnight stay in the hospital was primarily to rule out any serious injuries. He said he was doing fine, except for a little trouble with his head.

The intention was for the stunt to be performed seven times during the Zwarte Cross festival. Van Nes doesn’t yet know whether that will still happen. “I would really like to do it one more time. Because then I would do it right. But I think it is wiser for me to consider not doing it.”
