A Boeing 777 was shot down by a missile over east Ukraine on July 17, 2014, the Dutch Safety Board announced in their final report into the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17. "Flight MH17 crashed as a result of the detonation of a warhead outside the airplane," tearing off the front portion of the aircraft, the Board concluded.

A 34-year-old woman from Heerhugowaard was shocked upon the discovery of a dead infant wrapped in shopping bags inside her storage shed. The woman, Sandra Popma, suspects that the baby was left there by a homeless friend who was using Popma’s shed for storage.

France has committed 80 million euros in a bid to buy one of the two Rembrandt paintings that were conditionally sold to the Rijksmuseum for a combined 160 million. The museum orchestrated the purchase with 80 million euros from the Dutch government with the goal of bringing the marriage portraits of Maerten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit back to the Netherlands.
