Dead baby found in bag on the street

Police were called to the Schelde in Heerhugowaard, Noord-Holland, on Thursday afternoon where the body of a baby was found in a bag on the street. The gruesome discovery happened at about 2 p.m. Area residents thought it was a slightly older baby, possibly a one year old, that had possibly been dead at home for some time, local broadcaster RTV Noord-Holland reported. "It is a very tragic event. Apparently, these things also happen in Heerhugowaard," the stunned mayor of the town, Han ter Heegde, said. Investigators would neither confirm the gender nor the age of the deceased child, releasing little information about the case. Officers were collecting evidence at the scene and canvassing the neighborhood to find out any details they could, police confirmed in a statement.
