Over 24 million euros in non-active allowance payments were made to 229 former Dutch politicians over the past six years, the Telegraaf reports based on figures from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations.

Non-active allowance is an allowance paid to former politicians while they're waiting for a new job or their pension benefits to start. Between September 2012 and the end of 2018 a total of 186 former parliamentarians, 18 former Ministers, and 15 former State Secretaries made use of this allowance, according to the newspaper.

The Netherlands will coordinate the entire international search and rescue operation underway in Nepal, as the search for missing victims of the devastating earthquake continues. The decision was made at the request of the United Nations, Economics Affairs Minister Henk Kamp said in parliament today.

Public servant union NCF has claimed charges against Housing Minister Stef Blok (VVD) for misappropriation of funds. Union President Albert van der Smissen formally declared these charges to the Rotterdam police on Tuesday, claiming them to be a criminal offense.

Deputy PM Lodewijk Asscher has expressed fears that robots will increasingly be able to take over tasks historically performed by people, leading to a future rise in unemployment. Robots could replace cleaners, warehouse employees and even taxi drivers, according to Asscher.
