A team from the Dutch national platform of mental healthcare, the GGZ, has set up a task force to help municipalities make sure that people with serious mental health problems get the help they need. This task force launched earlier this week and is paid for by the Ministry of Public Health.
Dutch embassies world wide are having to deal with an increasing number of mentally unstable Dutch people. Dutch people with psychiatric problems are repatriated with consular assistance about 60 times a year - roughly twice as many as 10 years ago.
The Public Prosecutor in Rotterdam has found that a number of issues in Bart van U.'s file raise questions. No DNA material was taken from Van U. after a previous conviction in 2012. Van U. also never received treatment for delusions and fears of an Islamic terrorist attack.
New details emerged about the 38 year old Bart van U., who surrendered to the police in connection with his sister's murder.
Van U. turned himself in at the police station in Amsterdam. He invoked his right to remain silent, the AD reports. "I guess that he only wants to make a statement in front of the judge", said his lawyer Noelle Pieterse, who knows him from an earlier case.
