The Vrije Universitieit in Amsterdam will soon be offering free Dutch language and culture courses to imams, Trouw reports. 

Most of these Muslim clerics were trained in turkey, Morocco or Egypt and often only speak the language that they were trained in, according to the newspaper. They often also lack knowledge about life in the Netherlands. The Vrije Universiteit wants to offer them the opportunity to change this.

The Dutch authorities managed to keep 23 radical Islamic preachers from preaching in the Netherlands since March last year. Eight of them were denied a visa, the other 15 had their invitations to come preach retracted, according to a spokesperson for the National Coordinator of Counterterrorism and Security

Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb believes that foreign imams who often preach in Dutch mosques should be able to speak Dutch. And that the Muslim community should carry the cost of a language course itself.

A total of 45 imams from Morocco will preach the so-called "healthy Islam" in the Netherlands during Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month that starts on June 18th.

PVV leader Geert Wilders is pleased with Minister Bert Koenders' (Foreign Affairs) decision to withdraw the visas of three controversial Muslim preachers, who were scheduled to speak at a benefit in Rijswijk on March 8th. He does, however call this whole issue "incredible amateurism" of the Cabinet, the AD reports.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders has revoked the visas of three Muslim preachers who were scheduled to speak at a benefit in Rijswijk on 8 March. This was supposedly done because these imams are "hate preachers." It is not clear exactly who these imams are.

Dutch mosques are going to take to social media in an effort to counter the flood of muslim youths being recruited by terrorist organization IS. Young islamists are being encouraged to offer counter-discussions about the negatives of IS on the internet, to engage sympathizers to turn away from extremism, the Algemeen Dagblad reports.

Key figures in Dutch muslim communities will be encouraged by the Cabinet to do more to prevent radicalization among youths. In a renewed effort by the Cabinet to tackle extremism, Imams breeding hate will also be reprimanded more harshly.
